Hoka One One is an athletic shoe company originating in France that designs and markets running shoes. The brand first gained attention in the running industry by producing shoes with oversized outsoles, dubbed "maximalist" shoes due to extra cushion; this was in contrast to the minimalist shoes trend that was gaining popularity at the time of the company's founding in 2009.

Hoka produces both low-profile and max-cushion shoes for road, trail, and all-terrain; throughout its product line, Hoka shoes retain features like a low weight-to-cushion ratio and midsole and outsole geometry designed to promote inherent stability and an efficient stride.

ABOUT BONDI X

The Bondi X is Hoka’s max-cushioned carbon-plated trainer. It’s the first of its kind for Hoka but not the first of its kind. The New Balance FuelCell Lerato was the first super-premium, highly cushioned carbon-plated plated trainer and it competes directly with the Bondi X. The Lerato costs even more than the Bondi X though.

There are two types of carbon plates. In some racing shoes, the carbon plate provides a phenomenal bouncy snap that shoots you forward with every toe-off.

In other shoes, the carbon plate is more restrained and it merely improves transitions by making the midsole stiff, in turn improving efficiency. The carbon plate in the Bondi X falls into this category. The Bondi X is a spinoff of the Hoka Bondi series which is now on its 7th iteration.

The Bondi X weighs 0.5 oz (14 g) less than the Bondi 7 and it also has a thinner midsole- 33.5 mm in the heel, 28 mm in the forefoot compared 40 mm, 36 mm of the Bondi 7.
